Wednesday 7th April 2021 – Some Positive News

Hello. I hope you had a lovely Easter and took advantage of the holiday to rest. (And eat chocolate.)

I'm back to share some more positive news with you.

In a previous post, I shared some ways we could all go about saving the planet. Have you done any of these yet? I hope so! This time, I'm back with some more good news about how we are trying to look after our beautiful planet.

First up is Tesco. Now, if you live in the UK, or if you've ever been to the UK, you will know that Tesco is a large supermarket chain. Even if you haven't been to the UK, you may have heard of Tesco.

In 2019, Tesco launched their '4Rs packaging strategy'. Their aim: to 'remove the plastic where it can', to 'reduce it where it can't', 'reuse more' and 'recycle what's left'. Sarah Bradbury, who is Tesco Quality Director, has said: 'that there is no place for unnecessary or non-recyclable packaging in our business'. Since then, Tesco has removed one billion pieces of plastic from its packaging and has reduced its annual packaging footprint by 3,480 tonnes. (Which sounds insane! I can't believe it! That's seriously impressive! Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Lidl... literally all of you, do better. Or at least tell me if you are doing the same amount of good work.)

A Voltarol poll found out the 'top 40 tips retired Brits would give to younger generations'. It is very wholesome, and I would suggest taking lots of, if not all of, the tips on and making sure to remember them in life. It can be especially difficult to have a good mindset right now, but things are looking up. And these tips will hopefully make you feel better.

1. Treat others how you'd like to be treated yourself.

2. Manners don't cost a thing.

3. Always try your best.

4. Accept a company pension scheme if offered.

5. Don't spend all your time on social media. Live in the real world.

6. Start saving for your retirement in your twenties.

7. Don't take anything for granted.

8. You don't have to go to university to have a successful career.

9. Hold onto those closest to you.

10. Be confident in your own skin.

11. Respect your elders.

12. Enjoy your youth.

13. Never give up.

40. Less is more.

These tips are aimed at younger people, though everyone should try to take them on. And I know that everybody's situation is different, but you can always pick and choose which tips you'd like to focus on first. And they are just tips. At the end of the day, you choose how to live your life.

And finally, if you want to have a laugh, here's a Mummy bear trying to get her four cubs across a road.
